I'm having problems with clatter under my jeep and am trying to find the source of the problem this weekend.

I stumbled across a used transfer case and asked for a price just in case that's what the problem is.

Question is... what is a fair price for a used transfer case? It's not attached to anything right now... and there's no guarantee of it working.

It is however out of the same year jeep as mine (97) so fitting it wouldn't be a problem.

Any info is appreciated... Thanks!
Chris

I sold a TJ 6 cylinder, manual t-case without a Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE) for $100 last summer.

first i would check the fluid in your existing Tcase. if its low or smells burnt, you should drain it and refill it with ATF+4.

if that doesnt work and you still think your problem is your Tcase, i have one for sale i pulled out a month ago. its still attached to the 32RH from my 98. i have been asking $100. just changed the fluid in march.

call me if you are interested.

MonsterSeven -

Awesome! I just bought the ATF+4 to redo the fluid in my case... and I have some other things I need to recheck, but if it's the transfer case I'll just buy yours. The guy I was talking to in Blair wanted $175 for his and said "he thought it worked"... but wasn't 100% sure... I thought the price was high but also was a little nervous buying from a stranger.

I'm not a mechanic by trade, so I'm having some problems tracking this noise down...

Thanks!

Did some digging last night and when I pulled off the differential cover in the rear there were a couple of teeth loose from the pinion gear. I'm not a genius mechanic or anything, but do believe this could be the problem.

I believe I've located another rear-end from Doug... just need to check the gear ratios.

Thanks for the help guys!
